IT’S SNOWING!!! and SNOWING!!! and SNOWING!!! Got a couple of feet up in the mountains today and still snowing tonite. Should make for some great sledding tomorrow. Here’s some pics from today.

Did a little riding on Saturday, but after a 20 something hour ride west and arriving at about 9am was a pretty beat. So was able to get in a pretty full day yesterday. Here’s a few pics and a short video…

We all knew it was just a matter of time til it was official… Vilas officially closed their trails today… so early to have the season end this year. Still got one more ride in me yet tho..

If you are into warm temps and mud… its AWESOME!!! Unless we get a MAJOR dumping.. looks like it may be done! Not calling it an end of a season yet gonna head out west with a few buddies to ride out in the mountains this month.

But for here… for now… stick a fork in it! These trails are shot.

Picked up a couple of inches of snow for lubrication. It’s enough snow to get out of town here.. the further north you go the better the trails get where they picked up more snow . Trails have lubrication but are icy underneath. Things aren’t perfect.. but that’s what we got.

Spring Like Riding

Took a few days off as Dawn and I went to see our grandson… Yup, we are now grandparents, pretty scary huh!! LOL
Warm weathers been giving us a beating. Lots of bare spots but still worked our way around and had a good time. Still able to get around but gonna hit some bad spots. Zig zagged around and make our way down to Sugar Camp with Rich and Nick. Couple Good spots but for the most part poor to fair. One more warm day and then a chance of snow Tuesday and Wednesday, will keep ya posted as trails improve.

Eagle River / Conover Tuesday

The 4.5″ snow received early this week was a BIG help. Here’s some pics from yesterdays ride. Everything snow covered and for the most part good to great. Been seeing the groomers out nightly, and a BIG THANK YOU, they do an awesome job -

SnowTrackers Day 3 – Sunday

Sunday started out with a group of 22 sleds. With a few oops and a couple lost sleds, we finally got to putting on miles late. We made it out to Tippler and got gas & refreshments at the White Tail and hurried home for Valentines Dinner with the ladies. We rode Eagle River, Phelps, Alvin, Nelma and Tippler. We started picking up snow Sunday and had received about 2″ before we made it home from the ride that night. By later evening picked up a total of about 4.5″.

AWESOME WEEKEND with a GREAT group of folks… Looking forward to next year!

SnowTrackers Day 2 – Saturday

Saturday we headed out for our big group ride with about 30 plus sleds of snow trackers. We rode up to Black Oak and Bents Camp in LandO for the Radar Run, which a few of our group joined in on. We all headed back that evening to the Hiawatha for our evening BBQ. The traffic up in LandO Saturday was pretty heavy. Between the heavy traffic and full sun some of the trails got beat up.

SnowTrackers Friday – Day 1

This weekend was our annual Snow Tracks event. Friday after rounding everyone up, we took a rode over to Minocqua and rode the Ski-Doo demo sleds at Cruiser Fest. After playing in Minocqua for a bit, we headed back to Eagle River to meet up with more of the snowtrackers that came in for the weekend. We rode – Conover, Star Lake, Sayner, Minocqua, St. Germain & Eagle River… overall conditions ranged from fair to good.

Eagle River / St Germain

Dawn & I took a spin to St. Germain today to check out Dustin in his attempt to break the world record of most miles in a 24 hour period. When we were there he had about 400 miles behind him, only about 1,000 to go.. GOOD LUCK DUSTIN. He has until 9am ish tomorrow morning.
Trails were a mix out there today, with some fair, some good and some icy areas, but thats to be expected its on trail 70 out and trail 10 coming back which is always on the icy side – usually why we never head from Eagle River to St. Germain. All and all it wasn’t bad. Looking forward to the snowtrackers starting to arrive tomorrow…

Fridays ride with Glynyrd

Took a rip with Glynyrd on Friday to Conover, Star Lake, Sayner. Trail 3 to Conover was very icy. Trail 11 from Star Lake to Sayner was AWESOME. The other pieces of trails we hit weren’t bad… some icy corners, but still more than enough to hold your side of the trail without a problem.

(sorry late on posting Fridays ride… was hit with the flu bug for a few days)

Wow.. how the days go by quickly when your on nyquil. We’ve both been sick since the weekend and been trying to shake this thing. We’re going to take a little ride today and see how things are. Going to ride to St. Germain to give our support to Dustin who is attempting to break the worlds record for amount of miles on a sled in a 24 hour period starting at noon. 1/120th Soldier Ride!

We just spent the last 3 days welcoming home from Iraq some of the soldiers from the 1/120th out of Marshfield area. Most showed up Tuesday morning and the last one left this morning. I was contacted some time back last summer by Sgt. Marty Bever asking if we could put a little sled package together for himself & a few other soldiers he was serving with in Iraq who were really missing the cooler temps & snow back home in Wisconsin. We said sure… would love to. As it grewer closer Dawn & I contacted a few area business to see if they would like to join in to offer them a great package. John & Mary from BoatSport Marine offered an awesome rate for sled rentals. Dash from Friendship House treated them to a great breakfast. Ron & Cindy opened up and threw them a private party fit for a king. Heidi at the Hiawatha Hideaway set these guys up at the bar and showed them a great time. Jimmy Thompson from Phelps helped with a fast repair, and Perry (aka Howler) for doing rescue on the breakdown and riding tail. Lunch on Tuesday was at the Black Oak in LandO.
On Wednesday we rode thru Phelps, Alvin, down to Three Lakes where we had lunch at the Irish Waters Pub – who opened early for the soldiers. Awesome ride on Wednesday. Where we finished off the evening with dinner at the White Spruce Inn later that nite.
On Thursday we did a little riding – northwoods style and had lunch up in Phelps at the Great Escape. All treated these guys and galls to an extra special warm welcome home.. Hats off to the businesses and their big hearts to the troops.
I rode with the guys & gals Tues, Wed, and Thursday. We had a BLAST!!! We even got Dawn out for a 100 mile loop on Wednesday. It was great to give back to these soldiers that serve our country in these tough times.
Thank you to all the men and women of the 1/120th who choose to spend their home coming get together with us. It was an honor.

Soliders Ride!

Rode today with the returning soliders with the 1/120th. Trying to give them all a special couple of days of R&R, good sledding, good food and a whole lotta fun after returning last week from their tour from Iraq. Will try to update the full few days of riding tomorrow night, its now 11:30pm and we ride again tomorrow morning at 0700 sharp.
For those coming up this weekend or thinking of coming up… the trails are ok. Loose on top, with some areas getting icy. Trails are remaining smooth, picked up an inch or so of snow today, more in the forecast for this weekend. Praying for more.

Ride with the Reaper!

Took a ride out today with the Reaper and Jason. Rode up to Phelps, LandO, Conover and back to Eagle River. Ride was AWESOME today. Trail 17 & 6 were both really decent. Trail 13 was a skating rink, and trail 3 coming back into Eagle River was fine. With the exception of a couple of trails the riding up here is still real good. Probably gonna rest up tomorrow, got a “big special” ride on Tues & Wed…
Would really love a little extra snow if that can be arranged!

Eagle River / Star Lake / Sayner – 1/30

Rode Saturday with Reaper & Rayne. Trails were good, smooth, enough loose snow for lubrication with hard icy base. Most corners held up well, but a few were icy – so ride with caution. Had a great ride!!!

Eagle River to Iron River

Rode today with our guests Tom & his buddy Shaker. We rode up thru Phelps to Iron River… we put on a 120 miles. Even tho the trails are a little thin, they are all smooth and in decent shape – plenty of lube for the hyfaxes. We had an awesome ride even tho it was bitter cold. As far as bad areas.. dirt or gravel, didn’t find any today, but the base of the snow is set up really hard. Sure had no problem riding on these.

Eagle River Trails… Pretty darn good!

The groomers have been out the last few days and smoothed out most of the bumps pretty darn good. I rode out today and videoed the normally worst areas around here. Heading north out of Eagle River on trail 17 & 3, I found the trails in good shape, it’s a little thin in spots, ice in a few corners that had puddled and refroze… and a few stop signs were a bit icy also. Going south from Eagle River to Sugar Camp look good. The Eagle River trails are GOOD, not perfect..
Little more snow would be nice but we’re at the end of January.. the seasons not getting any longer.

Eagle River / LandO / Phelps

Took a ride today with Dawn and Jeff Catlin from Appleton PowerSports. We left Eagle River and took 13N to LandO, the trails were OK – snow covered, and a little rough. We had lunch at the Black Oak then rode trail 6 to Phelps. Trails also still have snow on them, some areas of snirty snow but trail 6 was whooped up the entire way to Phelps. Trail 17 back to Eagle River was actually in decent shape, nicely white snow covered and smooth. Overall it wasn’t a bad ride at all. I don’t think I’d want to make a 200 mile day out of this yet until we have alittle more snow and the groomers have had a chance to get out. The trails are not anywhere near perfect… but able to ride around every where with more than enough snow cover to enjoy some decent riding. Snowing lightly tonite, had a dusting so far. Here’s some pics and a video of todays ride.

On a side note here: To the family from Oak Park, IL that we met at Black Oak today… Thank you for your kind words, glad to see your out having fun on the trails and it was nice to finally meet you..
